[Update: Well. I admit it. I got caught up in the hype.  I was sort of hoping that Jason Calacanis might actually have some useful inside information, but basically nothing he said last night actually came to pass today.  Evidently it was all a joke and yours truly got punk'd.  Regardless, this is why we will stick to news over rumor.]

Normally at Symbiotek we try to stick more to commentary than rumor, but it is hard not to be swept along by the whirlwind of hype concerned the not-at-all-secret Apple Tablet to be unveiled tomorrow — even for an open-source hippie like myself.  And Apple has a long history of introducing industry-defining devices.  Furthermore, as the date draws near, many industry insiders with pertinent information begin to leak. I just caught wind of the twitter feed of Jason Calacanis (entrepeneur, TWiT regular and general tech personality), who is saying that he has an actual working copy of the device.  The fairly obvious statements apply: its fantastic, it has a camera (two in fact), it does magazine/print stuff way better than the Kindle, etc. There are also some statements that are less expected but cool: thumbprint security with pads on each side for gesturing.

The biggest news may be that Apple is finally going into the world of gaming.  For those of us who remember playing the puzzle game back in the days of OS7 or the chess game in OSX, it is somewhat of a surprise to hear that Apple would even consider adding a gaming component to their system.  Rumor had it that Jobs was rather idiosyncratically opposed to gaming (like he is opposed to buttons on his mice and track pads).  However, the rumor is that Mark Pincus (Founder and CEO of Zyngus — makers of the infamous ‘Farmville’ Facebook game) will be sharing the stage with Steve Jobs tomorrow.

Obviously everything is hearsay at this point, so check out some live-blogs tomorrow and see what actually gets unveiled.
